Detroit-based sustainable materials company signs MOUs with Liberian SMEs to explore circular materials, value-added agriculture, and local processing opportunities.
DETROIT, MI, June 2026 — Ecosphere Organics Founder & CEO Brittanie Dabney recently returned from Monrovia, Liberia after participating in the Michigan-Liberia Trade & Investment Mission, a cross-sector delegation focused on strengthening business, education, healthcare, innovation, and community development relationships between Michigan and Liberia.
During the mission, Dabney participated in government briefings, sector presentations, 1:1 business meetings, site visits, and strategic engagements with public and private-sector leaders. The trip included meetings with the National Investment Commission of Liberia, presentations from government officials across multiple sectors, a site visit to GLS Group’s logistics and distribution facility, a visit to Xavier Jesuit School, and additional opportunities to engage with local businesses, institutions, and community leaders in Monrovia.
As part of the mission, Ecosphere Organics signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding with Liberian SMEs to explore future collaboration around sustainable materials, value-added agriculture, circular manufacturing, local processing capacity, workforce development, and pilot opportunities. Potential areas of focus include agricultural and organic material streams connected to cocoa, rubber, cassava, and other locally available resources.
“Participating in the Michigan-Liberia Trade & Investment Mission was an important opportunity to build relationships, listen, and better understand where Ecosphere Organics can contribute to shared value creation,” said Brittanie Dabney, Founder & CEO of Ecosphere Organics. “Liberia has strong agricultural resources, entrepreneurial leadership, and a clear interest in value-added processing. Our goal is to explore partnerships that support sustainable materials development while strengthening local processing capacity, workforce opportunities, and long-term connections between Liberia and Michigan.”
The mission aligns with Ecosphere Organics’ broader work to transform agricultural and organic by-products into value-added materials for industry. Through its materials platform, the company develops powders, pigments, fibers, bio-based sheets, agricultural amendments, and localized processing pathways that support circular economy systems and manufacturing-ready inputs.
Following the mission, Ecosphere Organics will continue partner follow-up, review priority material streams, and develop practical pathways for future collaboration with Liberian partners. The company sees the Liberia-Michigan relationship as a meaningful opportunity to connect sustainable materials innovation with agriculture, trade, local processing, and economic development.
“Partnerships like these are built through trust, time, and shared vision,” Dabney added. “This mission was an important step toward identifying where sustainable materials, circular economy innovation, and international collaboration can come together in a practical and meaningful way.”
